ClearCase License Viewer

Filed under: — Mikolaj at analog clock showing 7:41

The other day I needed to log a couple of ClearCase® licenses. So I dusted my license viewer I wrote back in ‘02. And it worked!

I took a little time to write a couple of lines about it and clear some cobwebs off my web pages. And here it is.

I’m not 100% happy though. The behavior of <msie :download/> object must be dependent on some IE security settings, since it didn’t function the same way on two different computers. And I am too lazy to check why. So I cheated with the example, which doesn’t load any logs whatsoever. Instead I turned the logs into tables.

Update: I have revamped the viewer so it no longer uses the msie:download. See here
If you download it, you use it at your own risk!

Update 2007-11-6: As I have upgraded to ClearCase 7 I found that the $! variable I was checking, is getting set to “Bad file descriptor” regardless of success of the operation. Must be something with the perl version they are distributing with CC 7. I changed that condition, but if you want the old version with normal check, it’s here.

…And Every Day Should be Earth Day

Filed under: — Mikolaj at analog clock showing 8:07

Google had the Earthday-esque logo today. Hmmm… wasn’t there Earth Day already a month ago? Isn’t it organized at the time of vernal equinox? Well, not exactly. There are actually two Earth Days. One Earth Day in March and that’s the Earth Day which we have in Europe, the other - in April and I suppose this one’s considered Earth Day in USA.

I would have thought that conservationism is a simple thing. Not for the last 35 years, it seems! Every time you tend a flower, think what colors do you stand for! Every time you plant a Larch, mind that there are no enemy trees around! And every time you’re in a forest, kick these bĂȘte noire squirrel foes the hell out!

Whatever the reason, two Earth Days is one too many for the Earths available. Why make do divided by two official Soil Days, when everybody could get a custom-made Earth Day?

And since it is my idea, herewith I proclaim 13.5.2571 MY Earth Day.

PS. The title is from Beavis & Butthead

Rotten Fodder

Update: This post became stale. The prices I wrote about just have gotten reasonable, dispelling my plan of making a fortune ;-)

Where do they take these prices from? I just got this CD - The Wolfgang Press - Standing Up Straight - delivered and paid ca. 12 euros for it. OK, that’s not a special editon. I am curious if I will also get this The Wolfgang Press - Legendary Wolfgang Press and Other Tall Stories, that I ordered as well, for 12 euros.

70$ for a normal CD! Oh well, that’s just simple economics - the demand exceeds the supply. Taken it’s #299,670 sales rank, I reckon it must be something like 1 CD for a handful of prospecive buyers. Impressive :-D

Pat a Mat
I found this superb animation in the Internet Archive.
It’s a tribute to Pat a Mat (and Commodore 64 too!)

A real gem!
